Nagganbi ("hello" in Dharawal language)
We, here at Menai High as a community, would like to acknowledge that we are meeting on the traditional lands of the Dharawal speaking people. The call of the kookaburras and magpies remind us of how the ancestors lived in harmony. The surrounding nature, filled with yellow Wattle and red Waratahs, provide food and shelter for the cockatoos and connect us to Country.
We feel a strong connection to each other, as Illawong is surrounded by the Georges and Woronora rivers, creating a safe island for our Elders past, present and future, to share stories.
We nurture our space with the same care and commitment Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have shown since Grandfather Sun first rose. The land runs in their blood through their ancestral spirits and provides us with a safe space to build bonds. As we stand below the white clouds and the blue skies, we unite as a mob of skilled learners and skilled citizens for life.
