The various subjects offered within the Visual Arts aim to nurture and develop student creativity. Each subject is designed to strengthen student understanding and knowledge of art making practice and conceptual practice, these subjects include:
- Photography and digital media
- Visual arts
- Visual design - ceramics
- Visual design - print
Exhibition opportunity is provided to students throughout the year, enabling students to develop confidence and showcase the outstanding work produced in class, including
- The Menai HS annual,
- Student work from Year 7 – Year 12, and the HSC Practical Works,
- A cross-KLA exhibition between industrial arts and visual arts.
Collaborative art program
The Collaborative Art Program is a two-day workshop in which enthusiastic and talented artists, from Year 8 and Year 6 feeder schools, develop and refine their painting skills. Expert painting instruction leads to a collaborative mural painting and permanently displayed at Menai High School.
Excursions
Students studying within the Visual Arts are provided a range of excursion opportunities throughout the year, including:

- National gallery of australia,
- Taronga zoo,
- Sydney CBD
- Cockatoo island
MHS film day
The MHS film day provides an opportunity for enthusiastic and talented students to create and screen short-film. The MHS film day is designed to promote the use of new media within the visual arts.
